Thief River Falls standout, Michael Forney, will start his season playing for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. Forney, who graduated from Thief River Falls in 2006, lead the Prowlers to the State Tournament before starting school at UND. While at UND Forney went through several injuries, which sidelined him for the majority of his two years. Forney then opted to leave college and play a season with the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL). While at Green Bay, Forney lead his team in scoring with 60 points in 59 games, and also helped Green Bay finish first in the East Division and win the Anderson Cup.
By the end of the 2009 season Forney had signed a 3 year two way contract with the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL) and the Chicago Wolves (AHL). With the preseason now over, Forney received news that he will play for the Chicago program. During the preseason with the Thrashers he played 6 games accumulating 2 points (1g, 1a), and also played 3 preseason games with the Wolves. When asked about his time with Chicago Forney said, “I’m having a great time; I love the city and the organization. We are treated like an NHL team. I’m excited for the season to start.”
The Wolves start the season Oct. 3rd against the Milwaukee Admirals.
